CRC initiative: June 22nd, Christian-European Values Day

The Croatian Royal Council Association is launching an initiative to declare June 22, the day of the victory in the Battle of Sisak in 1593, a day of remembrance for Christian and European values.
June 22, 1593, after the great victory in the Battle of Sisak, marked a turning point in the wars of Christian Europe against the Turks. This not only defended the Kingdom of Croatia, but also neighboring countries, and completely stopped all major Turkish advances towards the heart of Europe.
The Croatian army was led to victory by Ban Toma (Bakač) Erdődy, and was joined by regiments from neighboring Austrian and Slovenian lands. The defeat of the much larger Ottoman army led by Hasan-paša Predojević (Turkish convert of Serbian origin) culminated in the capture of his ceremonial cloak, which was transformed into a chasuble. The Chasuble (Casula) and Maniple (Manipulus) are today kept in the National Museum of Slovenia as a great symbol of the victory of Christ and Christian Europe. The chosen personal motto dedicated to the victory of Croatian Ban Erdődy is "In Deo vici" (In God I have conquered).
The Croatian Royal Council Association proposes an initiative to declare June 22 as the Day of Christian-European Values, when we remember this significant victory for Christian Europe, when Croats, together with other European nations, once again proved to be the Bulwark of Christendom (Antemurale Christianitatis) and a strong framework of Europe. These are precisely the centuries-old foundations of our contribution to the European civilization to which we ourselves belong. Therefore, this day is perhaps the most appropriate in its meaning to commemorate these fundamental values of Christian Europe, which we ourselves cherish.
